A stop in Mexico

Mexico was the last stop on the Cuban Fusion cruise by Thomson. I was really excited to get to Mexico and was up and ready on time. After breakfast we were ready to get off the ship but it took a while for us to be allowed to. When we finally got off we headed straight for another boat waiting at the pier. The boat was rocking wildly and we had to run inside it. It was about a 45 minute journey to get where we would be taking a coach. The sea was really choppy and people were throwing up left right and centre and just as we had about 10 minutes left of the journey I threw up too. Not a good start the excursion! The Mexico Water Jets staff handed out plastic bags and paper towels at the beginning of the journey so they knew what was up.
Once at the other side we disembarked and joined our tour groups. The tour guides held signs with the destinations on them and we were going to Chichen Itza. Once we were all in our groups we walked to the coaches and when we were on we were given headsets by our tour guide so that everyone could hear him when we were out and about. It was a long drive and I took in the sights along the way. At Chichen Itza we were given water and an opportunity to use the rest room. The hotel we used was where we were to meet afterwards and also where we would have lunch.
CHICHEN ITZA
Our tour guide took us around and showed us a few points around the site like a Myan home, the pyramids and the ancient ball court/sacrificing rituals. The guide prattled on a bit too long and people started to get a bit restless because they wanted to move about themselves. At the end of the tour we were given 45 minutes to explore with instructions to meet back at the hotel to eat. Those 45 minutes went by mighty fast, just enough time to wander down the path to another site and buy a few souvenirs. I was definitely disappointed to not be able to visit the chocolate factory and see how chocolate was made using traditional methods. On a positive note it gives me something to look forward to going back to do.

BACK TO THE SHIP
The bus ride back was long and by that time I was really tired so I slept most of the way so heads up those with small kids! Then we had to get back on the boat to take us back to the pier with the cruise ship and I started feeling uneasy because I remembered that we just ate before leaving Chichen Itza. This time the sea was even rougher and it was a huge feat just to get onto the boat. The boat rocked and rolled trying its best to get away from the pier and about four or five members of staff had to try and anchor the bridges that people could run across which wasn't easy. I actually wondered if we were going to make it back at all! After ages sitting in that rollicking boat we finally went rolling across the waves in the night. When we got to the pier there seemed to be an issue with safety and they didn't let us off (there was an issue with safety from the beginning IMO) so we were kept in discomfort even longer. People were getting really upset and were feeling nauseous. Some were even throwing up again. When they let us off I went straight to my cabin because I was still feeling uneasy. In the night a note was pushed under the door stating that Thomson realised that the tour had been a bit of a let down and that people had been uncomfortable on the tour. I'm guessing that some people complained. In any case we were refunded the full cost of the tour! I was super happy because I got to see Chichen Itza like I wanted and got my money back! Yay!

SUMMERY
I would love to go back to Mexico to explore other things some more! Maybe walk around the town centre or go on another tour. The people I encountered were really friendly and upbeat but I know that there is so much more to see of Mexico!
